STOP THE BLEED® stands for quality

To ensure the quality of the products and services offered under the STOP THE BLEED® brand, the Department of Defense (DoD) closely monitors and controls who uses the STOP THE BLEED® brand and how it is used.


Quality in Training

Quality in Training

  • STOP THE BLEED® branded course materials have been reviewed and approved by the DoD.
  • STOP THE BLEED® courses must be taught by qualified STOP THE BLEED® instructors.
Quality in Equipment

Quality in Equipment

  • STOP THE BLEED® Kits are required to contain DoD-approved tourniquets.
  • Hemostatic dressings and all other medical devices in the kits are examined to ensure they meet DoD and FDA standards.

The STOP THE BLEED® Brand

The STOP THE BLEED® logo is your assurance that the products and training have all met DoD quality standards.

As the owner of the STOP THE BLEED® trademark, the DoD licenses all third party use of the mark. For this reason, any organization wishing to use the  STOP THE BLEED® mark must demonstrate the ability to meet DoD standards and be issued a license.

All licensees are required to comply with the guidelines set forth in the STOP THE BLEED® Style Guide.

STOP THE BLEED® Licensing Program

Organizations and individuals must have a STOP THE BLEED® license to offer STOP THE BLEED® branded training classes.


Licensing for Organizations

Organizations interested in offering STOP THE BLEED® training can apply for a STOP THE BLEED® Educational License. STOP THE BLEED® organization licenses are issued by the American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed program, Stop the Bleed Coalition, and the US. Department of Defense.

Groups can choose to be licensed by both the Coalition and the American College of Surgeons.

Groups desiring to create courses and/or training materials that differ from those provided by the Stop the Bleed Coalition or the American College of Surgeons should contact DoD at stopthebleed@stripes.osd.mil.

Licensing for Instructors

To offer STOP THE BLEED® branded courses, individuals must have a STOP THE BLEED® license issued by either the Stop the Bleed Coalition or the American College of Surgeons Stop the Bleed Program. Both organizations offer DoD approved STOP THE BLEED® training and support materials.

Individuals may choose to obtain a license from both organizations in order to access all of the DoD approved bleeding control training and support materials available.

Individuals holding a STOP THE BLEED® Instructor’s License must comply fully with the license they have been issued by the American College of Surgeons or the Stop the Bleed Coalition. No modifications of the course curriculum are permitted unless specifically approved in writing by the organization that issued your license.
